List of World Trade Center tenants

Built in 1970, the World Trade Center housed more than 430 companies from 28 countries. They were engaged in a wide variety of commercial activities, including banking and finance, insurance, transportation, import and export companies, customs brokerage, trade associations and representatives of foreign governments. 

An estimated 50,000 people worked in the World Trade Center, and another 140,000 visited the complex daily. Below is a list of tenants that had office space in the twin towers and four other buildings in the complex.

El edificio, uno de los complejos empresariales más grandes del mundo

NUEVA YORK, 12 de septiembre (Notimex)

El World Trade Center, devastado por un brutal atentado terrorista que hizo colapsar tres de sus siete edificios, fue no sólo uno de los complejos empresariales más grandes del mundo, sino epicentro simbólico del comercio de Estados Unidos.

El complejo se extendía en un área de 6.5 hectáreas en el sur de Manhattan y en él se ubicaban también 70 tiendas y restaurantes, incluido el famoso Windows on the World, en una de las Torres Gemelas, desde donde se apreciaba el caótico panorama neoyorquino.

Dos aviones comerciales secuestrados cambiaron ayer la faz de la multiétnica ciudad de los rascacielos, acabaron con el emblemático centro de negocios y abrieron una nueva era para la política exterior estadounidense.

El World Trade Center (WTC) albergaba no sólo negocios, restaurantes, un hotel y centro de compras, sino un cúmulo de agencias gubernamentales y decenas de empresas relacionadas con el comercio internacional.

El estado de Nueva York y 435 compañías de 26 países alquilaban oficinas en las pulverizadas Torres Gemelas, donde laboraban alrededor de 50,000 personas ?la mayoría de la comunidad financiera?. Tantas como las 40,000 personas que las visitaban a diario.

Las Torres Gemelas albergaban, entre otros negocios, a las famosas corredurías Merrill Lynch y Lehman Brothers, así como al Bank of Yakohama, al Bank of Taiwan, al Fuji Bank & Trust, a la empresa AIG Aviation Brokerage, a Oppenheimer Funds y a Cantor Fitzgerald.

Tan sólo la firma Morgan Stanley Dean Witter rentaba 50 pisos en las dos torres, de 110 pisos cada una.

En el edificio Siete del complejo se encontraban las oficinas centrales de la empresa de servicios financieros American Express. Una de las Torres Gemelas tenía en la parte superior unas 10 antenas centrales de televisoras, numerosas antenas auxiliares y la antena maestra de telecomunicaciones en Frecuencia Modulada (FM). Unas 10 estaciones de televisión, incluidas las cadenas más importantes, transmitían desde la torre. El complejo fue diseñado por Minoru Yamasaki y su construcción se inició en 1966.

Las Torres en cifras 

• El complejo ocupa 16 acres de terreno.
• El ancho de las ventanas de ambos edificios es de 22 pulgadas.
• Fue decidido por el arquitecto Minoru Yamasaki, que explica que si las ventanas no son más anchas que los hombros de un persona, la sensación de vértigo es menor.
• Hay 43.600 ventanas.
• Tienen 110 pisos de altura
• Los ascensores alcanzan una velocidad de 27 pies por segundo.
• La antena de televisión que ondea en una de las torres tiene una altura de 360 pies.
• Recibe 150.000 visitantes diarios
• Las torres son tan grandes, que necesita un código postal sólamente para cubrir todas sus plantas.
• Cada día, 10 camiones de correo descargan en el World Trade Center.
• Su código postal propio es el 10048

List of World Trade Center tenants
Built in 1970, the World Trade Center housed more than 430 companies from 28 countries. They were engaged in a wide variety of commercial activities, including banking and finance, insurance, transportation, import and export companies, customs brokerage, trade associations and representatives of foreign governments.

An estimated 50,000 people worked in the World Trade Center, and another 140,000 visited the complex daily. Below is a list of tenants that had office space in the twin towers and four other buildings in the complex.
